Sprout Dentistry for Kids

We emphasize the importance of the team approach towards treatment of Tethered Oral Tissues (TOTS) in order to achieve the best results possible. We collaborate with all lactation professionals, oral myofunctional therapists, speech therapists, and occupational therapists to establish multi-disciplinary communication and collaboration, so that proper therapy protocols are in place before and after any release procedure.
We use state-of-the-art CO2 laser technology to release tethered tissues and efficiently ablate tissue while minimizing healing time, post-operative discomfort, and post-operative tissue contraction versus other methods.

Kara has experience as a Speech Language Pathologist at Baton Rouge General Pediatric Rehabilitation Center and in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Her expertise includes feeding difficulties related to prematurity, genetic syndromes, medically complex children, and Tongue/Lip/Buccal Tie (pre/post surgery).
New Baby Support Services
New Baby Support Services offers comprehensive prenatal and pre-adoption consultations and classes to help parents learn what to expect when planning for a new baby. In-person and virtual support including lactation (latching and pumping), postpartum recovery, babywearing, and infant sleep education is available for when baby arrives by birth, surrogacy, or adoption. All in-person lactation support includes infant oral and feeding assessment, an individualized care plan, and follow-up support to help parents meet their lactation goals. Office is conveniently located on Main Street in Ames and home visits are available in Central Iowa.

My name is Karyn (Car-in) and I have been a pediatric occupational therapist since 2010. In working with many families over the years, I have realized two things; one, that eating and family meal time is a huge part of our daily lives which creates connection to those around us, and two, as a mom of a picky eater, my love for exploring, enjoying, and sharing a balance of tasty and nutritious food and meal times continues to grow. These two areas combined led me to specialize in feeding therapy, in order to help families feel more comfortable, connected, and successful with meal time in their home and the community. I have taken many courses to further educate myself in learning about sensory and oral motor difficulties, tethered oral tissues (TOTs), breast and bottle feeding in infants, food progression, and overall pediatric feeding difficulties. I also enjoy collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure that I am working with all disciplines of a child's team.
